Experts applying gentle pressure to boost biker safety

BIKERS in Derbyshire will be offered free tyre-pressure gauges.

Some 200 checkers will be handed out during a motorcycle meet at Matlock Bath’s Pavilion car park. It is on between 1pm and 4pm on Sunday, August 19.

Visitors to the event will also be able to pick up a free copy of TyreSafe’s guide for motorcyclists.

Andy Adlington, of Derbyshire Road Safety Partnership, said: “Our message to riders is, look after your tyres and they will look after you.

“Visitors will be able to find out how to keep their tyres in tip-top condition.

“We’ll be explaining how to check tyres have enough tread on them and that they’re inflated to the level specified in the manufacturer’s handbook.

“Riders will also be able to find out how to make sure that their tyres are correctly balanced and aligned.”

The partnership’s tyre-safety checklist advises measuring tyre pressures from cold at least once a week and checking tread depth complies with the legal limit of 1mm.

Bikers should replace bent or cracked rims and check that both tyres are from the same manufacturer.
